Hints & Tips for Painting with Watercolor

This is a collection of some of my favorite watercolor tips sometimes called "SHORT CUTS" by my students.
Some of these tips are the result of playing, experimenting and wondering what will happen if I do this or that.
Some tips are the results of fixing the mistakes I made when I goofed up. Many tips have been around for decades.
They are not new and were shared by fellow students or wonderful instructors in past watercolor classes and workshops.
And it is my pleasure to pass them on and share them with you.
Enjoy!

Using leaves as stamps & stencils

Create unique greeting cards using watercolor pigments
painted directly on real leaves. Start by using a leaf as a stencil, dabble paint with a dry brush or a damp sponge to leave an outline of the leaf to create a textured background. Then, to use the leaf as a stamp, apply thick moist paint (but not drippy paint) directly on the leaf itself. Learn more . . .
